Redmi 9 Prime

Redmi 9 Prime is released back on 06 August 2020 and still is the best selling smartphone at price tag of around 9,999/- (4gb-64gb variant) and 10,999/- (4gb-128gb variant). This smartphone is available in four color variants : Space Blue, Matte Black, Sunrise Flare and my personal favourite Mint Green color.

It comes with a huge display of 6.5inches and the resolution of the screen is Full HD+ which is great in this price segment. The 8MP front camera comes with a dew drop design on the display and the rear 13Mp Quad-camera setup is also good in my opinion in this price segment.

As per performance point of view you get an Mediatek Helio G80 chipset which gives you good performance in day-to-day tasks but in gaming you have to compromise on performance a little bit but considering the price it is justified.

The battery on Redmi 9 Power is quite good at 5020mAh it lasts up to full day of moderate usage and charging is also good because 18W fast charger bundled in the box and it charges the phone at decent speed.

Body & Display ratings :-

Redmi 9 Prime is entirely made up of plastic with plastic frame and back. Though the back of phone looks great in my opinion because of textured gradients. This phone weighs around 198 grams with thickness of 9.1mm which is quite heavy and thick but the phone feels balanced and sturdy on hands. Though the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 which is good.

The display of Redmi 9 Power is of 6.5inches and the panel is IPS LCD which is common under 10,000/-Rupees smartphones and the plus point of this smartphone is its Full HD+ display, it also looks nice and the colors produced are vibrant and natural. This phone gives you 83.2% screen-to-body ratio which is good in any case.

Camera ratings :-

Redmi 9 Power has a Quad-camera layout with a 13MP primary sensor, a 8MP ultrawide sensor, a 2MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro sensor. The 13MP main camera is good and I was satisfied to see the perform decently in well-lit conditions. There is some amount of over sharpening that is present but in general, shots are vivid with exposure mostly handled well. Dynamic range is not that great but the sensor at least the colors are much closer to real-life.

The ultrawide 8MP is great and its surprise to see in this price segment this phone can capture great ultrawide shots with 118 degree field-of-view and the quality of the image is also good. The 2MP depth camera is good and does the job very well. There is also a 5MP macro camera for clicking macro close-up shot like ants, grains, etc. and it is good and must have in my opinion.

The selfie camera in Redmi 9 Prime is of 8MP for clicking selfies but it shoots videos of [email protected] 30fps. Also the main camera on this smartphone can shoots video up to [email protected]

Hardware & Performance ratings :-

The Mediatek Helio G80 is a mainstream ARM SoC for smartphones (mainly Android based) that was introduced in 2020. It is manufactured in a 12 nm FinFET process and integrates 8 CPU cores. Two fast ARM Cortex-A75 cores with up to 2 GHz for performance tasks and six small ARM Cortex-A55 with up to 1.8 GHz for efficiency.

The integrated GPU is a ARM Mali-G52 with two clusters at up to 950 MHz. The SoC integrates furthermore a LTE radio with Cat-7 (download) / Cat-13 (upload) support, Wifi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.0, LPDDR4x 1800 MHz and eMMC 5.1 storage.

As per gaming point of view this smartphone can run all kind of game with ease but with bigger titles like Call Of Duty Mobile and PUBG this phone struggles to perform well but it is playable with low settings to get decent frame rates.

Battery & Charging ratings

This smartphone comes with a 5020 mAh battery with a 18W fast charger in the box. The battery gives a lower screen-on-time as compared to other phones like Samsung M02s because higher resolution screen and non-power efficient chipset. The fast charger is also good and does the job of charging the phone quite fast.

Redmi 9 Prime at price tag of around 10k gives a great value for money performance starting with Full HD+ display which is a huge plus point in this price segment. After that, Quad-camera setup at the back gives this phone a mid-segment smartphone and classy look and the camera are also quite good in itself. Though, the chipset could be better but the G80 is also nice in performance and battery consumption and does the job. The battery on this smartphone is good enough of about 5020 mAh with 18W fast charger in the box. Overall I can say if you are looking for an smartphone with Full HD+ display and a decent camera and chipset then I am pretty sure Redmi 9 Prime is the best smartphone I can suggest you to buy around 10k price segment.
